To Our Lady of King Street Station

Trish Saunders

There was no need to duck your head
when we saw you waitressing
in Waimanalo, your tips
so meager
they might feed small birds.

Just tell the driver, “I’ll pay next time”
and take your seat on the bus with us.
We too remember lustrous black hair.

The beauty school will dye it
for free on Tuesday.
