Guidelines

  • While Mien is based out of Virginia, we accept international submissions. Please include your bio (and mailing address for print publication) in the body of your email and direct all work to mienliterarymagazine@gmail.com. Bios should be around 50-100 words and written in the third-person. Though we accept simultaneous submissions, notify us immediately should your work be accepted elsewhere. Should you be inclined to submit to more than one genre, do so in separate emails.

  • Mien acquires First Serial Rights and the right to archive your work on our website, though copyright reverts to the author upon publication. Mien does not accept work that has been previously published (in print or online).

  • Though it is our ambition, Mien does not currently compensate its contributors.

  • Fiction: Works should be no more than 3000 words. We will only review self-contained works. Submit in a .doc or .docx format.

  • Poetry: Submit a maximum of 8 pages in a .doc or .docx format.

  • Non-Fiction: Though Issue No. 1 was primarily poetry and fiction writing, we hope to expand to non-fiction in future issues. Each work of non-fiction should not exceed 3000 words. Submit in a .doc or .docx format.

  • Visual Arts: The scope of acceptance for this genre covers all forms of visual art, i.e., photography, videography, illustrations, paintings, drawings, etc. Keep all video submissions under three minutes. For all other forms of visual art, submit no more than 10 pieces. Submit your work in JPEG, as an attachment, and provide a brief description of the work's intention in the body of your e-mail. Should you be uncertain about placing your work in this category, do not hesitate to inquire.
